Vertigo of freedom was part of Woolgathering exhibition in Stockholm Craftweek 2023.
‘Woolgathering means letting the mind wander, like wool gatherers aimlessly picking tufts of wool from bushes where sheep have passed. The term has a negative tone, but cal also be seen as a creative state, where reality melts away and certain things emerge are clarified. in this exhibition Flock( art craft collective) uses craft as a door into daydreaming. Where do the thoughts wander when the hands are busy with repetition? What do you notice when you allow yourself to wander aimlessly?’ (Text by Flock for Stockholm CraftWeek 2023)
For me, and some other people, daydreaming does not necessarily mean wandering in positive thoughts. Sometimes I get traped in anxious repetitive limbos. Vertigo of freedom is a ceramic installation representing the dissociation of mind and body. An amputated body restricted from action and a mind in precarious balance. More text about this feeling accompanied by pictures here.
The exhibition was the result of individual work, conversations, share inspiration and discussion between Flock members. I am grateful to have shared this experience with Tilda Dalunde, Mina Rombo Zetterlund, Lisa Fält, Anna Bergmark and Anna-Klara Samuelson, wonderful people and artist.
